6th Step--Wearing of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel
Brown Scapular Everyday
It is important that all Catholics wear Our Lady's Brown Scapular because she has stated Herself that it is a sign that we are consecrated to Her. The Brown Scapular has been around for hundreds of years. Our Blessed Mother appeared to St. Simon Stock in the 13th Century holding the Brown Scapular in her hand saying, "This is for you and yours a privilege; the one who dies in it will be saved." The Scapular promise is imprinted on the scapular, "Whosoever dies wearing this scapular shall not suffer eternal fire."
Pope John the 22nd in 1322 had a vision of Our Lady granting, on the Saturday following their death, that She will come down to personally deliver the souls from Purgatory that have worn the scapular faithfully throughout life and have fulfilled certain conditions such as observing charity and chastity, wearing the scapular in life perpetually, reading the Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary (or by permission by a priest, be allowed to say the Holy Rosary in its place), observing Wednesday and Saturdays to abstain from eating meat and be enrolled in the Brown Scapular. The story of the scapular and enrollment process in the Brown Scapular can be found in the package when one buys a Our Lady of Mount Carmel Brown Scapular at Sisters of Carmel or you may go to www.sistersofcarmel.com/brown-scapular-information.php.
