How To Beat Loneliness
In these times, it is a very good to assess how we are coping with loneliness. If some single Catholics are having difficulty living alone, it would be great to think about getting a good Catholic/Christian roommate(s) of the same gender because they can better understand the difficulties that other singles may have and help to give moral support whenever needed. Your roommate can be a family member who lives by herself/himself, senior parents, aunt/uncles/cousins/nieces/nephews, etc. Your roommate could also be a single Catholic who attends Mass at your local parish.
It is important that the roommates that someone chooses has common interests, similar background, good Christian morals/attitude, a kind/easy-going demeanor, a good prayerful lifestyle, strength/courage/holiness of mind, body and spirit and financial stability. So, where can we find these "good Catholic/Christian" roommates? Well, it is not impossible to find these types of great people. One suggestion is to put an ad in your local Catholic parish bulletin which would look something like this:
"Devout Catholic single woman (or if you're a single Catholic man, ask for another single Catholic male roommate) looking for a great and faith-filled fellow single Catholic woman (your similar age) to be a roommate and share a 2 bd, 2ba apartment. Must be (around your same age), financially stable with job or other form of steady, reliable income, excellent Catholic morals, no criminal record, not a party-goer, no loud music. Must be devoted to Jesus Christ, Our Blessed Mother, attends Mass, receives Holy Communion, and lives by the teachings of the Catholic Church. Must be able to pay half of the rent and utilities, pay for your own food, etc. Call 111-111-1111 for more details."
Another suggestion on where you can find great roommates is by asking your family or friends if they know of another single Catholic/Christian (of the same gender) who is also a devoted Catholic/Christian who loves Jesus Christ, obeys the 10 Commandments of God, goes to weekly Church and who also needs a roommate. You will be surprised that there are many single Catholics who are looking for devout Catholic/Christian roommates who share similar interests/backgrounds and lifestyles. Since there are approximately 25 million single Catholics in the world, it is very possible that devoted single Catholics will be able to find other devoted single Catholics/Christians within their same city/state/country. It is not impossible!
The main idea to remember is that single Catholics are never alone, although it may seem that way at times. Every single Catholic/Christian must remember that each one of us is important in Our Heavenly Father's, Our Lord's and in Our Blessed Mother's eyes. Since Our Heavenly Father took the time to create us, we ought to remember that we are His children. We must never forget that very important fact! Although at times, we may face tribulations, temptations and difficulties, we can talk/pray to Our Heavenly Father, to Our Lord Jesus and to Our Blessed Mother at any time or place. We can ask Them to protect, help, defend us against the evils of our times, help us to persevere in our Catholic faith, provide for our physical/mental/spiritual well-being and financial obligations and give us the strength/courage to continue on our life journey.
Some other ways that single Catholic women and men can beat loneliness is by taking an online class, learn a new hobby, achieve a higher degree of education, work out at home, get closer to your nieces/nephews, talk to friends/family on the phone or visit them virtually online through Zoom, do arts/crafts, learn a new trade/occupation, and most importantly, keep yourself busy because when you remain sedentary and don't keep your mind occupied, it could be very easy to slip into depression, anger, resentment, loneliness and boredom. For example, if you need "company" to keep your mind busy, just virtually connect with friends/family online three days a week through live video and virtually work on hobbies together since you can watch each other while working on your similar hobby. Just be creative and try to solve loneliness issues in a constructive and useful way.
We must never forget that all of the miracles that Jesus performed during his time are still possible in our times. When we pray the "Our Father", we ask Our Heavenly Father to "give us our daily bread" and "to lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil". In the Bible, the New Testament very clearly reminds us that "we must pray always" because "the devil is like a roaring lion waiting for someone to devour". Don't believe the devil's lies! We must always remain vigilant in our daily prayers for the rest of our lives and ask Our Heavenly Father, Our Lord Jesus and Our Heavenly Mother for whatever we need. We must always stay close to Our Lord Jesus and to Our Blessed Mother at all times because they will come to our rescue if we have faith and ask Them for daily help. Pray the daily Rosary, 9 Day Novenas, and other prayers to Our Lord Jesus, to Our Blessed Mother and to various saints who will help. Also, do not forget to pray for your families as well because the family is the domestic church.
Most importantly, never give up. Fight the good fight, stay close to the Catholic Church, obey God's Commandments, go to confession, attend/view weekly Mass, pray frequently throughout the day and if you need a roommate, ask God, Our Lord Jesus and Our Blessed Mother to send you a great, faithful single Catholic/Christian. May God bless you always.
