Single life
It is important that single Catholics change their lives and concern themselves with being as good and holy as possible. Our Blessed Mother has asked, in all of her apparitions, that all people change their lives and do good in their lives. Many single Catholics are called to follow Christ through religious life and the priesthood but some single Catholics feel called to remain single temporarily or for life. God gives each person their own particular purpose in life and everyone has the freedom to choose their own vocation.
If single people are not called to the married life, Jesus wants all single people to remain chaste and celibate throughout their single life. It is very important that all Catholic single people set an example for the next generation of Catholics by being diligent in resisting the temptations of the flesh and resisting all forms of evil. It is considered a scandal and truly evil to live a life that goes against the teachings of the Catholic Church and against the Commandments of God because it gives the next generation of Catholics the wrong impression that it is acceptable to sin against God. This way of thinking is false and should be avoided at all costs.
It is very important that Catholic single people have a very strong and vibrant prayer life--they should pray the Holy Rosary at least once a day, pray Novenas, pray to the Sacred Heart of Jesus Novena daily, pray to the Blessed Mother and pray to St. Michael the Archangel for daily protection, wear the Brown Scapular, wear the crucifix of Our Lord, the Miraculous Medal and St. Benedict medals. Single Catholics should realize that as long as Our Almighty Father, Jesus, Our Blessed Mother, the Angels and Saints are with them spiritually in their lives, they are never alone. Single Catholics should all join the Secular religious communities as laity if they have a wish to grow closer to Our Blessed Mother, and to Our Lord Jesus in Heaven which you can find out more information on in our Secular Third Orders page. Secular Third Orders are not like joining a Legion of Mary but it requires a stronger commitment to Our Lord and to Our Blessed Mother. In Secular Orders, you actually make promises with a Catholic religious community of your choice and meet regularly in your specific Secular Order community every month.
There were many saints who were also single such as St. Christopher. St. Christopher "met a hermit who instructed him in the Christian faith. Christopher asked the hermit how he could serve Christ. When the hermit suggested fasting and prayer, Christopher replied that he was unable to perform that service. The hermit then suggested that because of his size and strength Christopher could serve Christ by assisting people to cross a dangerous river, where they were perishing in the attempt. The hermit promised that this service would be pleasing to Christ.
After Christopher had performed this service for some time, a little child asked him to take him across the river. During the crossing, the river started getting flooded and the child seemed as heavy as lead, so much that Christopher could scarcely carry him and found himself in great difficulty. When he finally reached the other side, he said to the child: 'You have put me in the greatest danger. I do not think the whole world could have been as heavy on my shoulders as you were.' The child replied: "You had on your shoulders not only the whole world but Him who made it. I am Christ your King, whom you are serving by this work." The child then vanished."
Many single Catholics should involve themselves with worthwhile organizations that help others such as giving money to or feeding the homeless, giving shelter or clothing to families who cannot afford it or even start organizations that benefit others. Try to help others less fortunate. When people help others, they are really helping Jesus. Jesus said, "Whatever you do for the least of my brothers, you are doing it for Me."
Everyone goes through problems, even married people, so you're not alone. We never know when we will be called from this life, so make each moment count and give praise to The Heavenly Father above and to Our Lord Jesus Christ for your life! Just try to be happy, joyous and enjoy the life God has given you because life is short. The only way to be truly happy is to be united with Christ. He alone can fulfill our lives, dreams and make us truly happy because Jesus said, "Without Me, you can do nothing." Jesus loves every person and He loves single Catholics and Christians as well! Pray every day for Jesus to help you get through the day and night and be followers of Jesus. Do not follow superstitions, cults, false doctrine and never follow the evil examples of others. Never give in to temptations of the flesh or to any other type of evil. Also, please give honor to Our Heavenly Father and to Our Blessed Mother in Heaven! Always make sure that you are doing everything in your power, with the help of prayer and the Sacraments of the Catholic Church, to live a life of purity and holiness so that when your life on earth is over, you will receive your true reward in Heaven.
May God bless all people and especially all singles of the world!
