The Importance of Heavenly Archangels
and Guardian Angels
Archangels are extremely important in the life of the Church. St. Michael is said to be everywhere where Our Blessed Mother is. He is there for Her whenever She needs him. St. Michael appeared to St. Joan of Ark and spoke to her about many things concerning her duties for her country and to God. St. Michael the Archangel helps drive away evil forces that may be around the world whenever He is called upon for help. St. Michael is the patron saint of grocers, mariners, paratroopers, police and those with sickness.
St. Gabriel is another Archangel. He is the Angel who appeared to Zachariah to announce the birth of St. John the Baptizer. Finally, he announced to Mary that She would bear a Son Who would be conceived of the Holy Spirit, Son of the Most High, and Savior of the world. St. Gabriel is the patron saint of communications workers.
St. Raphael is the third Archangel which means "God heals." This identity came about because of the biblical story which claims that he "healed" the earth when it was defiled by the sins of the fallen angels in the apocryphal book of Enoch. Raphael is also identified as the angel who moved the waters of the healing sheep pool. He is also the patron of the blind, of happy meetings, of nurses, of physicians and of travelers
Guardian angels are very important in the Catholic Church and to every human being. We are told that each one of us has a guardian angel which is given to each one of us at birth. They are to be our protectors in times of trouble and to help pray for us and help to guide us on the road to salvation while we are here on earth. Thank God for guardian angels. All Catholics should thank guardian angels for the care they give us. Each Catholic should be praying to their guardian angel every day. Here is the Guardian Angel Prayer:

Angel of God, my Guardian Dear,
To whom God's love commits me here,
Ever this day and night be at my side,
To light, guard, rule and guide me.
Angel sent by God to guide me,
Be my light and walk beside me.
Be my guardian and protect me.
On the path of life direct me.
To whom God's love commits me here,
Ever this day and night be at my side,
To light, guard, rule and guide me.
Angel sent by God to guide me,
Be my light and walk beside me.
Be my guardian and protect me.
On the path of life direct me.
