The Importance of Maintaining
a holy and Innocent Mind, Heart and body
During modern times, there is much temptation to live a fast, physically and spiritually unhealthy lifestyle. Many spiritually depraved people search for any person to "save" them from themselves so that they can continue to live comfortably and happily. What these people do not seem to realize is that there is only One Savior that is capable of bringing them comfort and rest for their unhappy, weary, and stress-filled lives. The Savior of the world is none other than Jesus Christ. Jesus is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, whenever we need Him. All He asks us to do is to love Him, to trust Him, to pray to Him, to ask for His help everyday, to convert our lives and turn our lives over to Him. Jesus can solve any problem and is very capable of helping anyone who asks Him. We must have faith that He can truly help us. When we turn our lives over to Jesus, problems and difficulties become easier to handle because Jesus said, "Come to me, all you who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30)
So, what does Jesus expect from His followers? In order to become a disciple of Jesus and to love Him, we must learn to be like children. We need to learn how to live for and follow Jesus as God's children. How do we know this? Because Jesus said, “Truly I say to you, unless you change and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 18:3) But, how can we come to love Jesus if we have been far away from Him in our lives? The answer is that people need to learn how to have a friendship with Jesus. Jesus is not far away. He listens to us whenever we speak with Him. That conversation with Jesus can be in a car drive to work, in the Church, at home when we are praying, on a bedside of one of our relatives who may be sick, during Eucharistic Adoration at our local Catholic parish, when we are helping to feed the hungry or homeless people of our city, and wherever we happen to be.
The evil one and spiritually unhealthy, insecure people try to convince single people, and those that live alone, that they surely cannot possibly live without another person but this is a terrible and vicious lie. All people, especially single people and people that may live alone, need to know that their holy guardian angel, Jesus, the Blessed Mother, the Heavenly Father, St. Michael the Archangel, the saints and heavenly angels are invisibly with them all of their lives (if one prays and asks for their protection), watching over them and praying for them daily. So, they are never truly alone. By an order from God, our own guardian angel was given to us from birth and has been with us ever since. It is important for single Catholics to remember that they need to always be careful not to have conversations with people who are really "wolves in sheep's clothing" and with unscrupulous, conniving individuals who seek to lead traditional Catholics astray. The best way to counteract these spiritually depraved people is to pray the Holy Rosary often, asking Our Blessed Mother, Jesus and St. Michael for protection throughout the day and evening hours, wear a blessed Crucifix and sacramentals, use holy water to bless homes, cars and yourself often, have a priest bless your home residence, pray the St. Michael prayer often, have a picture of St. Michael in your home, pray to the heavenly saints for protection throughout the day, attend weekly Mass, go to Confession frequently, receive Holy Communion frequently, recite the Catholic Litanies and Novenas, to always avoid any conversations and social interaction with these detrimental people, listening to your instincts about when to avoid certain people and areas of town, when travelling somewhere, always bring a family member or good, faithful friend with you and always be careful of your own and your family's personal safety wherever you are and wherever you go.
When we have to make that final journey into eternity, at the time of death, our holy guardian angel will be there present. But for now, we must all realize that our "alone time" may be something that has been ordained by God. Therefore, we need to take this time to get closer to Jesus and to the Blessed Mother, to our holy guardian angel, to the saints, to St. Michael and to the holy angels in heaven who can help us throughout our lives if we ask Them to. This "alone time" may even end up being for the rest of our lives. So, we must always be close to and vigilant in praying to Our Heavenly Father, to Our Lord Jesus, to Our Blessed Mother and to the heavenly saints and angels.
People all need help from time to time and who better to count on than our heavenly companions who will never be a "false friend" or someone who may lead us astray. They are reliable, friendly, saintly and we can always count on Them to help, assist, protect us and come to our rescue. Many of the great saints in heaven had great friendships with Our Blessed Mother, with Jesus, with the saints in heaven, with their own holy guardian angel, and with the holy angels in heaven. One such friendship was between Pope John the 23rd who relied on his guardian angel often and had a great friendship with his guardian angel. Another example of saints who relied on heaven to befriend them was St. Jean Vianney who was a humble and saintly priest who lived during the 18th-19th century. He had a great devotion to St. Philomena and prayed to her often and asked her, on many occasions, to intercede for him and to cure the sick and infirmed people who came to ask for his prayers.
So, it is important that people learn to rely on their own God-given independence, talents and abilities, on Jesus, on Our Blessed Mother, on Our Heavenly Father, and on the saints and angels in heaven. Sometimes, our own insecurities and an unnatural dependence on others can get in the way of living a full and happy life. There have been stories of single people forming dysfunctional friendships with bad people and the dysfunction may even continue into the future marriage. Therefore, one must learn that in order to be truly happy, one must learn how to form and maintain a strong will and character, a healthy, holy and innocent mind, heart and body as well as an independent, prayerful and thankful lifestyle, keeping one's mind and life busy with work, personal hobbies, exercise, recreation, together with a lifetime dedication to Jesus, the Blessed Mother, Our Heavenly Father, the saints and the holy angels, with the weekly Mass and Holy Communion, with confession, with following the teachings of the Catholic Church, reading the Holy Bible, getting rid of, overcoming and not falling for mental, physical and spiritual temptations, maintaining a holy, innocent mind, heart and body, maintaining holy and respectful friendships with others and friends, seeing others as Children of God, treating others, women and children with respect and dignity, living your lives as Children of God, praying often and obeying the 10 commandments of God so that one can continue to live peacefully and happily alone and with others.
