Wear The Brown Scapular of Mount Carmel Everyday
It is extremely important that every Catholic wear the Brown Scapular of Mt. Carmel. Catechumens who are in the process of converting to Catholicism may ask a Catholic priest if they can be enrolled in the Brown Scapular as well. The Brown Scapular pictured above has been blessed by Pope Francis. You can purchase it on Amazon.com or another Brown Scapular at the Sisters of Carmel website. In order to obtain the benefits of the Brown Scapular, one must be enrolled in it by a Catholic priest. Our Blessed Mother has promised that whoever wears the Brown Scapular without stain of sin, will not go to Hell at the hour of death. At the moment of death, She has promised that the person who is enrolled in the scapular and has worn the scapular all of their life, without the stain of sin, will share in everlasting salvation. More than one person (a group) can also be enrolled in the Brown Scapular at the same time together as long as each person has their own Brown Scapular of Mt. Carmel at the time of their enrollment.
The Brown Scapular is the habit of the Blessed Virgin Mary and is the Brown Scapular that the laity wears. The Carmelite Sisters wear a similar Brown Scapular but it is larger. The Brown Scapular must be worn with respect for the Blessed Mother. As such, the person who wears the Brown Scapular acts in a manner befitting a servant of God, Jesus and the Blessed Mother, with reverence, respect and without stain of any sin. Therefore, it is imperative that all sins be confessed to a priest as soon as possible, at all times, and that the person always tries to remain in the state of grace.
This is the enrollment prayer/blessing of the Brown Scapular and of the person wearing the Brown Scapular that the Catholic priest must recite in the person's presence. You can print a copy of this webpage so that you can take it to a priest so that you, family and friends can be enrolled in the Brown Scapular.
Rite for the Blessing and Investiture of the
Scapular of Our Lady of Mount Carmel
To obtain the fullest possible benefits from the Brown Scapular devotion, one must be validly invested (sometimes called "enrolled") in the Brown Scapular by a priest who possesses the faculties (usually a Carmelite, Dominican or Franciscan), using a scapular blessed by the same or any other priest. After proper enrollment in the Scapular, a person need not have subsequent scapulars blessed. Once enrolled you are enrolled until death. A Scapular Ritual for Priests, with the prayers of enrollment, is found below:
Priest - Show us, O Lord, Thy mercy.
Respondent (the person)- And grant us Thy salvation.
P - Lord, hear my prayer.
R - And let my cry come unto Thee.
P - The Lord be with you.
R - And with your spirit.
P - Lord Jesus Christ, Savior of the human race, sancfify + (priest blesses the scapulars) by Thy power these scapulars, which for love of Thee and for love of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Thy servants will wear devoutly, so that through the intercession of the same Virgin Mary, Mother of God, and protect against the evil spirits, they persevere until death in Thy grace. Thou who liveth and reigneth world without end. Amen.
The Priest does the Aspersion and Invests Person(s) While Saying:
(Priest sprinkles the Brown Scapulars with Holy Water);
Receive these blessed Scapulars and ask the Most Holy Virgin that by Her merits, it may be worn with no stain of sin, protect you from all harm and bring you to everlasting life. Amen.
After the Investiture the Priest Continues With the Prayers. Priest places Scapulars on the individuals saying:
In virtue of the power given me, I admit you to share in all the spiritual benefits which through the merciful assistance of Jesus Christ are performed by the Religious Order of Mount Carmel.
In the name of the Father+and of the Son+and of the Holy Spirit+. Amen.
May God Almighty, the Creator of Heaven and earth, bless you, He who has chosen you to be enrolled in the Confraternity of the Blessed Virgin of Mount Carmel; we implore Her to crush the head of the ancient serpent in the hour of your death and help you to attain at last unto the palm and crown of the everlasting inheritance. Through Christ our Lord.
R - Amen.
